Influence of Climate and Coastal Flooding on Eastern Red Cedar Growth along a Marsh-Forest Ecotone

چکیده
Coastal forests in the Mid-Atlantic region are threatened by sea level rise through chronic and episodic salinization hydrologic alterations, leading to inland marsh migration occurrence of ghost forests. This study uses dendrochronology explore impact rising on annual growth Juniperus virginiana (the Eastern red cedar) at St. Jones component Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve Dover, DE. Chronologies from low high elevations were developed, a difference chronology (high–low) was generated. A rapid field assessment tree stress indicated greater elevation trees, soil tests showed higher moisture salt content compared samples elevation. Ring width indices analyzed relation water level, precipitation, Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index, temperature, with Pearson’s correlation analysis. Trees growing climate sensitivity responded favorably cool, wet summers. Over time, correlations between variables decreased, while negative tidal increased—a pattern that presented nearly decade earlier system. Given widespread distribution cedar its changes this species may be particularly useful as sentinel change coastal landscapes levels rise.

Podophyllotoxin Content in Leaves of Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)
Eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana L. Cupressaceae) occurs naturally throughout eastern North America and has been identified as a source of podophyllotoxin. Podophyllotoxin is used to manufacture drugs for treatment of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, genital warts, psoriasis, and multiple sclerosis. Leaf material was collected from Juniperus plants located in northern Mississippi once a mon...
متن کاملInfluence of resource availability on Juniperus virginiana expansion in a forest–prairie ecotone
Woody plant expansion into grasslands and savannas is a global concern. Rapid expansion of Juniperus virginiana, a tree native to North America, has profound ecological consequences. We used transplanted J. virginiana seedlings to investigate the role of resource availability on J. virginiana expansion following the removal of fire, the factor historically limiting range expansion of this firei...
متن کاملFuture Coastal Population Growth and Exposure to Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Flooding - A Global Assessment
Coastal zones are exposed to a range of coastal hazards including sea-level rise with its related effects. At the same time, they are more densely populated than the hinterland and exhibit higher rates of population growth and urbanisation. As this trend is expected to continue into the future, we investigate how coastal populations will be affected by such impacts at global and regional scales...

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...
